OVERVIEW

Conjunctivitis, also called pink eye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the thin, transparent layer of tissue that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye.

Pink eye is a common condition that can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, an allergic reaction, or chemical exposure. It is usually harmless and resolves itself within a few days. However, it can be uncomfortable and sometimes cause serious vision problems.

There are three main types of pink eye: viral, bacterial, and allergic. Each type has different symptoms and requires different treatment.

SYMPTOMS

The signs and symptoms of pink eye may include the following:
