OVERVIEW

Motion sickness is a condition that is caused by moving in a car, bus, train, boat, or plane. It is also called sea sickness, car sickness, or airsickness. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, cold sweat, and sometimes headaches and dizziness. Motion sickness is more common in children than adults, and it is more common in women than men.

There are several theories about what causes motion sickness, but the most likely cause is a conflict between what you see and what you feel. For example, when you are in a car, you can see the world outside moving, but you feel like you are sitting still. This conflict between what you see and what you feel can cause nausea and vomiting.

CAUSES

The cause of morning sickness is not known. Hormone changes might play a role. Rarely, a medical condition not related to pregnancy, such as thyroid or gallbladder disease, can cause serious nausea or vomiting.
